What I learned
User research
Summary
I conducted user interviews to gain insights into the potential user base and their intended usage of the product. Initially, I presumed the app would cater to individuals caring for plants at home. However, my research revealed diverse scenarios where the app could prove valuable. For instance, it could assist chefs in plant identification or aid foragers in identifying unfamiliar plants.
Pain Points
Limited time for plant care: Busy schedules leave little time to tend to plants and meet their basic needs.
Difficulty identifying plant issues: Plants may be dying due to various factors like sunlight or water, and it's challenging to diagnose the problem without adequate knowledge.
Limited gardening knowledge: Many people lack gardening expertise, necessitating easily accessible information presented in a user-friendly format.
Difficulty identifying plants: Some plants look alike, making it challenging to differentiate between them.
User Interviews
After analyzing both applications, it is clear that they share many similarities in their approach. For instance, both Booking.com and TripAdvisor allow users to create trip plans by adding accommodations and activities, which can then be shared with friends or other contacts.
The trip area is a crucial aspect of these applications, where users can plan their travel itineraries. However, there is still room for improvement, and I intend to enhance the trip planning functionality by adding messaging and communication features for other users who have been added to the trip.
This would enable users to collaborate within the app to make decisions about where to stay and what to do during their travels.
Wireframes
Following the creation of user flows, we proceeded to develop a Figma page where we explored various approaches to displaying the data on both desktop and mobile devices.
This involved generating multiple iterations of the design and engaging in extensive collaborative sessions with developers and stakeholders to identify the optimal solution. Throughout this process, we prioritized open communication and teamwork to ensure that the final design effectively addressed the needs of all stakeholders.
Solution
The final outcome was an app that streamlined the hotel booking process, providing a simple and efficient solution. The feature's clean and minimalist design helped users to focus on the essential details while eliminating unnecessary distractions.
Additionally, the app's features were carefully curated to ensure that they met the needs and preferences of the target audience. Overall, the app was a testament to the effectiveness of combining thoughtful design with a user-centric approach to product development.
